PLA

PLA is a corn based resin made by NatureWorks® and it is a plastic that requires much less energy to mold.  It has a wide variety of packaging uses including plastic bottles, trays, films, and containers.  PLA uses approximately 68% less fossil fuel to produce and it is the first greenhouse gas neutral polymer.  This polymer is particularly well suited for injection stretch blow molding to form bottles and jars.  This is a great plastic bottle substance because it will fit with all landfill diversion options and has great transparency.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer and can be used for many different packaging uses: food packaging, lab equipment, car components, and textile products and packaging.  This plastic is resistant to chemical solvents, bases and acids.  It is much less brittle than your standard HDPE packaging.  PP also has a low fatigue factor, so the majority of plastic hinges used in packaging are made from polypropylene.

PVC

PVC or polyvinyl chloride is a widely-used plastic.  PVC containers are very clear, durable, and resistant to chemicals.  Common packaging uses of PVC containers are household goods like cleaners, personal care items, and soaps.  This material also has high amounts of industrial uses for sewers and pipelines due to its cost and the flexibility of the product.

HDPE

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a rigid, tough, and strong resin.  It has a very poor clarity and has a natural milky color.  HDPE has very good stress crack resistance.  Also, it carries a good impact strength and is difficult to melt.  HDPE is commonly used in personal care packaging, chemical packaging, and food packaging.  It also lends itself very well to blow molding.

PET is a strong, lightweight plastic resin that looks similar to glass in clarity and takes colorant very well.  PET is commonly used in food packaging because of its strong barrier properties against water vapor, dilute acids, oils, gases, and alcohols.  It is shatter-resistant, slightly flexible and easy to recycle.  PET packaging is all around us everyday.  It is great packaging for soda and alcohol because of its strong barrier protection.  You can tell a PET bottle by the recycling code "1" marked on the bottle
