Sometimes a box design just needs a new set of eyes to look at it from a different perspective. Axim Biotechnologies already had a box with a custom corrugated insert to hold its kit of products. The problem was that the insert was very large with a lay flat size that was actually larger than the inside of the box. This was driving up the cost by using much more board than what was needed. It also did not have a clean design that gave the products inside a very polished presentation.

Peek Packaging’s structural designers saw the layout and made a simple switch that fixed the problem. The pouches inside the box were rotated to be in a horizontal position across the box. This allowed a simple divider to be made that utilized the inside side rolls of the box to cut slits into and act as a locking mechanism for the divider. The old design did not use this option so they had to extend the entire insert all the way along the bottom of the box to press against the edge and “lock” into place. 

A two layered insert was then designed to hold the small bag of components in place while also lifting it up to the top of the box for a cleaner presentation. This insert also held the larger bag of parts firmly in place. The logo was printed on the insert for a nice final touch

Custom corrugated inserts are a multi faceted packaging insert that can really elevate the open box experience. It has the ability to be cut into very custom structures, be printed on, and is fully recyclable. Corrugated inserts can be much cheaper than foam solutions as well.
